BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team worked out for just under two hours on Friday afternoon in helmets and shorts in preparation for the second intra-squad scrimmage of preseason practice slated for Saturday morning. The Blazers open against SEC foe Tennessee at 12:30 p.m. ET/11:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn.
"It went good (today)," UAB head coach Watson Brown said. "We didn't hurt anybody. We are getting a lot of heat and that's good (because of the Tennessee kickoff time).
"We got to work on our two-minute drill for the first time and it didn't look very good," Brown added. "That's why we'll do it about three or four more time before we play Tennessee. Anytime you do something the first time, that's what it looks like, so it showed us where we were with that drill."
Brown said the offensive line depth concerns got a little boost on Friday with the return of two injured starters.
"It was good to see Adam Truitt and Julius Wilson back on the practice field," he said. "I don't know if we'll use them tomorrow (in the scrimmage), but at least they got a day of work. That's good. So, it was a good day."
Saturday's scrimmage is slated for 11:30 a.m. CT at the Blazers' practice field. Brown stressed the importance of the contest to his team after Friday's practice.
"Really, you set your two-deep depth chart and your kicking teams off of this scrimmage," Brown explained. "It really determines what you're going to go to Tennessee with and who you are going to play comes off of that right there. So, it's an important day for all of them."
