UAB Tennis Team Wins Seventh Straight Match

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB tennis team cruised past visiting Belmont, 6-1, here Saturday for its seventh consecutive victory.
The Blazers, now 14-4 in dual matches this spring, won the doubles point and then took wins in five of six singles matches. Saturday's match against the Bruins was UAB's final home action of the season. The Blazers have recorded wins in nine of the past 10 matches.
UAB's Sebastian Falk at No. 1 and Andre Maier at the No. 2 position were extended to three sets in their matches, but the Blazers won straight set decisions at No. 3, 4 and 5. Falk defeated Alex Gillott,4-6, 6-0, 6-3, while Maier was a 6-4, 4-6, 10-3 winner over Felipe Lima.
At No. 3 singles, UAB's Anton Mavrin was a 7-6, 6-1 winner over Javier Rodriguez while Kristijan Mitrovski won a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Fausto Rocha of Belmont. Filip Kanczula provided the Blazers with another singles win of the day as he disposed of Felipe Abreu, 6-1, 7-6.
In doubles, the team of Kanczula and Maier were winners at No. 1 while Mitrovski and Mavrin took the victory at No. 2.
The Blazers close out their regular season on Wednesday when they visit in-state foe Alabama.
