BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team hit the practice field for two hours in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts on Thursday afternoon as the Blazers begin preparations for their final home game against UCF on Nov. 12. With nearly two weeks between games, head coach Watson Brown is optimistic about getting extra time to prepare for the Golden Knights.
"We got a UCF day in and also got some fundamental work, so we're going to pick up two days on them," said Brown. "We've got today and then Monday before we start a normal Tuesday week. And we went hard last week so I'm giving them these next three days off, so we'll come back Monday ready to go."
UAB (4-4, 2-3 C-USA) picked up a huge, 37-20 victory over Memphis Tuesday night at the Liberty Bowl. After dropping three straight conference games, Darrell Hackney helped the Blazers halt their losing streak, throwing for 334 yards and four touchdowns. Corey White also ran for a career-high 200 yards in UAB's sixth-straight win over the Tigers.
UCF (5-3, 4-1 C-USA) has won five of its last six games and hosts Houston Saturday in a homecoming game at the Citrus Bowl. The Golden Knights sit atop the Conference USA East Division standings under second-year head coach George O'Leary.
The game against UCF on Nov. 12 will be UAB's last of the season at Legion Field and will be televised on CSTV. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT.
