IRVING, Texas --- UAB junior Elizabeth Ambrus has been named the Conference USA Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week. The announcement was made Tuesday by the conference office.
Ambrus, who has now won the award three times in her career, won the Evansville Invitational on October 15 and helped the Blazers take the team title as well. Ambrus turned in the league's fastest 5K time this season, running the course in 17:23.75.
"Elizabeth is a great young lady and very deserving of this honor," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "She is really running well at the right time of the year."
A first-team All-Conference USA runner in 2004, Ambrus won the race by 28 seconds, picking up her first Athlete of the Week award this season. She received the honor in back-to-back weeks during the 2004 season.
The Blazers take this weekend off before participating in the 2005 Conference USA Championships on October 29 in Orlando, Fla.
