HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Ivan Clark blocked two punts that set up touchdowns and Marshall hung on to beat UAB 20-19 on Saturday.
With UAB leading 19-14 in the fourth quarter, Parker Mullins shanked a punt that traveled just 10 yards. Quarterback Bernie Morris responded with a 40-yard touchdown run to put Marshall (3-3, 2-1 Conference USA) ahead.
Held to just 39 first-half passing yards for UAB (3-3, 1-2), Darrell Hackney threw for 66 yards on the first drive of the second half, including a 19-yard touchdown pass to Lance Rhodes, and finished with 245 yards on 20-of-35 passing with one interception.
Marshall got off to its usual slow start - the Thundering Herd failed to score in the first quarter for the fourth straight game. But late in the first quarter, a bad UAB snap led to Clark's first blocked punt deep in UAB territory, setting up a 4-yard touchdown pass from Morris to Marcus Fitzgerald.
Morris finished 14-of-28 for 99 yards and one interception.
Clark blocked his second punt midway through the third quarter that led to a 12-yard touchdown run by Ahmad Bradshaw.
UAB took a 19-14 lead early in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run by Corey White, the culmination of a drive highlighted by a 51-yard completion to Chico Cleveland. A two-point conversion attempt failed.
After his tough day punting the ball, Mullins had a chance to win the game with a 51-yard field goal attempt as time expired, but the kick missed.
