UAB Travels To Indiana For Final Regular-Season Meet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB cross country team has made a small change to its schedule, as UAB heads to Evansville, Ind., to compete in the Evansville Invitational on Saturday, October 15. The meet will serve as the Blazers' final tune-up before heading to the Conference USA Championships on Oct. 29 in Orlando, Fla.
"We are finally healthy, for the most part," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "This meet should give us the level of confidence that we need going into the Conference Championships in Orlando."
The meet is the fourth-annual UE Invitational and will take place at the UE Cross Country Course. A 5,000-meter community open race will kick off the meet at 10:00 a.m., with the men's 8K race following at 11:00 a.m. and the women's 5K race beginning at approximately 11:45.
The Purple Aces will welcome eight other schools, in addition to UAB, for the race. Over 88 male competitors and 74 female runners from schools such as Creighton, Lipscomb, Murray State, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee-Martin, Valparaiso, Vanderbilt, Vincennes University and Evansville.
In its last meet, UAB finished 20th in the women's Blue Division of the Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 30. The Blazers were led by junior Elizabeth Ambrus, who placed 60th out of 200 competitors in the 5K race, while junior Jennifer Thompson placed 104th for UAB. Whitney Mays, a sophomore, was one second off of her career best, recording a time of 18:39 and finishing 113th. The Blazers tallied 530 points in the event, finishing ahead of Georgia Tech, Florida, Miami (Ohio) and Mississippi State.
