BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team was back on the field for more than two hours, preparing for its upcoming game with Memphis. The Blazers host the Tigers on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 6:00 p.m. (CT) at Legion Field. The game will be televised on CSS.
The Blazers starting working on their game plan for Memphis by working on some fundamentals. UAB also has to worry about a complex and experienced Tiger team.
"It was a good first day," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "The work is important this week. We had some weaknesses exposed against Florida State, especially fundamentally. We worked on that with some live action today.
"They (Memphis) are a tough team to prepare for defensively because they are unorthodox. They do so many different things. They blitz you a lot. Offensively, they are hard to prepare for because they are a good run-pass team. Their tailback (DeAngelo Williams) can do so many things as well. He's the center of everything they do. Plus, they have a four-year starter at quarterback (Danny Wimprine) who is hard to confuse, so it's a hard offensive team to play as well."
UAB is coming off a physical game at Florida State, as the Seminoles defeated the Blazers, 34-7.
"The whole team is sore," Brown continued. "When you play good football teams you are sore until about Wednesday or Thursday, but you go again. Carlos Hendricks is the only player I see as `questionable'. Everybody else is okay."
