BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team worked out for just under two hours in warm and humid conditions Thursday as the team made its final preparations for Saturday's season opener against Baylor. The team practiced in helmets and shorts for the second straight day. The practice was light according to UAB head coach Watson Brown and consisted mainly of mental work. "Today's practice was very good," said Brown. "I think they are ready to go. We don't need any more. I think it's time to play. I don't think there's much more we can do. Normally, we are a little bit heavier than this, but we have been working on this team for two weeks, so it's a little lighter today than normal." With the exception of starting cornerback Carlos Hendricks, who is recovering from an injury, Brown noted that the team will be healthy heading into Saturday's game. "Other than Carlos Hendricks, who I think is still going to play some, but is still tender, we are healthy and ready to go," Brown said. UAB opens the season at home Saturday against Baylor. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Legion Field. The first 10,000 fans will receive a set of UAB Cheersticks.
