BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team worked out for just over two hours in helmets and shorts Wednesday as the team continued to make preparations for its game against eighth-ranked Florida State Saturday.
The Blazers' practice schedule for the rest of the week is uncertain due to weather concerns.
"We are not making decisions, we are making contingency plans because we just don't know what is going to happen," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "Our university is closed down for the next two days. We will wait until tomorrow to see what we can do tomorrow. If the weather is not too bad and we have power, we will practice tomorrow."
Coach Brown also addressed Saturday's game and the possible travel plans.
"The next decision will be what we can do in travel to get to Tallahassee," Brown said. "It is just too early to make that decision. I will leave as late as Saturday, if possible, to play the game. I'm willing to leave Saturday morning. We really want to get this in. Basically, what we are doing is just thinking about all the different things that could happen and what we would do in each scenario.
"We'll do whatever we can at this point to get down there. If there's no way to get down there, then that's something we'll deal with later. Right now, we are planning on playing this game. I think it will be sometime around mid-day tomorrow before we really start trying to make a strong decision. I'm going to make sure we are safe. That's first. Once we are safe, we want to play this game."
UAB and Florida State are scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. (EST) Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. The game will be nationally broadcast on ESPN2.
