BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- The UAB football team had a light practice without pads for a little under two hours on Wednesday afternoon, only three days before the season-opening game against Baylor. The team concentrated on working on the final preparations for the Baylor gameplan and, according to head coach Watson Brown, the team is ready to play. "The team looked better and I think we are ready," Brown said. "We have one more day to polish a few things. We worked hard on short yardage, long yardage and goal like this afternoon. We are trying to tweak that and get a little more of the same tomorrow and really that is it - we will be ready to go." The Blazers made it through the preseason relatively healthy. Most noticeably returning to practice on Wednesday was starting cornerback Carlos Hendricks who has missed about a week due to an injury. "Carlos practiced and looked fine, but we are still going to look at him on gameday," Brown said. "I think we are as healthy as I think you could ask considering we had such tough preseason practices, two scrimmages and a lot of hard hitting in practice, so I think we have been lucky so far." The Blazers open the season at home against Baylor Sept. 4. with kickoff slated for 6 p.m. at Legion Field. The first 10,000 fans will receive a set of UAB Cheersticks.
