BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- The UAB football team practiced for approximately two hours on Monday in preparation for the opening game of the regular season this Saturday against Big XII foe Baylor. The Blazers practiced in shoulder pads and shorts, and are expected to do the same for the rest of the week. "Practice went good," UAB head coach Watson Brown said. "We have to understand that we still have a week to prepare for Baylor and not everything will be polished in one day. There were some things that didn't look too good, but we still have three more practices to go and hopefully we will get a little better tomorrow." The players and coaches could sense a little more excitement as the first practices began for game week. However, Brown knows the players can not get overly excited yet. "I can certainly sense a little excitement in everyone," Brown continued. "This is game week, but we can't get too pumped up yet. Our players still need to relax, stay focused and get their job done. The team is expected to work out in shoulder pads and shorts the next three days, before having a light walk through at Legion Field on Friday. The Blazers open the season at home against Baylor Sept. 4. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Legion Field.
