BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team returned to the field here on Friday afternoon. The Blazers practiced in shorts and pads for just under two hours after a rain-shortened practice on Thursday afternoon. The Blazers worked more on their game plan for Baylor, putting in several more pieces. UAB went against each other for 45 minutes and will do it again twice next week. "We're right where we need to be," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "We're not behind, we're not ahead. I feel very good. We'll finish it up next week and we'll be ready to play. We're pretty healthy. Carlos Hendricks is the only one sitting out right now and we'll probably bring him back into practice on Wednesday. We're in a lot better shape, physically, than we were last year. "I'm really positive about this year," Brown continued. "I believe it's our turn. I think we'll have a good year and our kids should stay healthy. We've been working them hard and no one's backed off." UAB opens the season in eight days, as it hosts Baylor on Saturday, Sept. 4 (6:00 p.m. CT) at Legion Field.
