BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- The UAB football team practiced for a little under two hours here Tuesday afternoon in shorts and helmets. After Monday's scrimmage, the team turned their focus to the opening game of the season against the Baylor Bears as head coach Watson Brown began working on the gameplan for the Sept. 4 contest. Brown held just a light practice on Tuesday due to Monday's lengthy scrimmage and worked a little of the stiffness out of the players. "Practice went good today even though the guys are a little sore," Brown said. "We had a long scrimmage (Monday) and the guys are tired. I think we did the right thing by putting them into shorts (Tuesday). We were able to get a lot of Baylor work done and get some good conditioning at the end. We hope the players will be fresh by Thursday so hopefully we can get in a good pad day." UAB is next scheduled to practice Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Brown said he wants to use the next several practices to work on Baylor gameplan as well as work on the overall depth of the team. "We are going to make a depth chart from the scrimmage and go from there," Brown continued. "We saw some very good plays and some poor plays in the scrimmage. Our second team was not nearly competitive enough for me and they were not as good as they were in the first scrimmage, so we fell off there for some reason. I just have to get our second teams ready to pick it up again." The Blazers open the season at home against Baylor Sept. 4. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Legion Field.
