BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team began two-a-day practices here on Thursday under mild conditions and overcast skies. After practicing in the morning, the Blazers hit the field for just over two hours in the afternoon. "These are the dog days now," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "They're tired. The newness and freshness have worn off. The bodies are tired and sore. This is when you make a football team. You've got to go. You have to make the best of it and right now, I think this team is. I think we've handled it well so far. We've been very lucky with the weather, that's the only thing they're not getting, but they're working really hard." UAB will scrimmage for the first time this fall on Saturday, August 14, at 4:00 p.m. on the practice field. The Blazers will host "Fan Day" on Friday, August 20, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with the Green & Gold scrimmage at West Campus Field. Immediately following the scrimmage, fans will be able to meet the 2004 Blazers during a photo and autograph session that will begin at 7:00 p.m. All fans who attend the autograph session will receive a free 2004 UAB football schedule poster for the players to sign. The Blazers will open the season on Saturday, Sept. 4 (6:00 p.m. CT) when UAB hosts Baylor at Legion Field.
