BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team worked out for just over two hours and 40 minutes Tuesday in its second straight day in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts. UAB head coach Watson Brown has been pleased with the last two days of helmet-and-shoulder-pad work and now looks forward to the team practicing in full pads. "We have had two good shoulder-pads-and-shorts days," said Brown. "We've gotten more physical, but tomorrow we'll get even more physical. We're doing a really good job of taking care of one another and getting physical work and not hurting people. Tomorrow is another step. We really look forward to it. I think they do and so do we as coaches." UAB will hold its first full-pad practice of the fall Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Blazers kick off the season Sept. 4 at home against Baylor. The game is slated for a 6 p.m. start at Legion Field.
