UAB Men's Tennis Falls To South Alabama, 4-1

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas --- The UAB men's tennis team tallied one singles victory, as it fell to South Alabama, 4-1, in its second match at the 2004 HEB Collegiate Team Championships here Friday.
The Blazers dropped four singles matches, giving USA the win. The two teams did not play doubles since the outcome had already been decided.
UAB's (8-3, 2-1) Tobi Klein recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win over the Jaguars' Franticek Babej in the No. 1 position, registering the Blazers' lone win.
South Alabama (7-4) then swept all four of the remaining completed matches. In the No. 2 slot, USA's Pavel Mazaev was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over the Blazers' Anton Mavrin. At the No. 3 position, the Jaguars' Clinton Jacobs defeated UAB's Andre Maier, 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 4 tilt, South Alabama's David Kepka beat the Blazers' Kristijan Mitrovski, 6-4, 7-5. At the No. 6 spot, UAB's Dino Mancarella fell to the Jaguars' Jorgen Vestli, 6-2, 7-6.
The No. 5 match between the Blazers' Sanzaruz Zaman and USA's Evan Fowler did not finish.
UAB will continue to participate in the HEB Collegiate Classic, as the Blazers take to the court to face Memphis on Saturday.
