UAB Men's Tennis Team Blanks Samford, 7-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB men's tennis team beat cross-town foe Samford, 7-0, here at Brook Highland Racquet Club Tuesday afternoon.
UAB (11-4, 3-1) took the doubles point by winning all three matches. In the No. 1 spot, the Blazers' Tobi Klein and Andre Maier defeated Samford's James Bryce and Johnny Griffee, 8-5. At the No. 2 slot, UAB's Kristijan Mitrovski and Anton Mavrin were 9-7 winners over the Bulldogs' Bradley Weaver and Joey Jansen. In the No. 3 match, the Blazers' Dino Mancarella and Sanzaruz Zaman beat Samford's Stuart Misner and Rob Nunnery, 8-5.
The Blazers then swept all six singles matches. At the No. 1 position, UAB's Klein was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over the Bulldogs' Manuel Miletic. In the No. 2 tilt, the Blazers' Mavrin defeated Samford's Bryce, 6-2, 6-1. UAB's Maier was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over the Bullldogs' Misner in the No. 3 match, snapping a seven-match losing streak by Maier. In the No. 4 position, Samford's Nunnery fell to the Blazers' Mitrovski, 7-6, 6-3. At the No. 5 tilt, UAB's Zaman was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over the Bulldogs' Griffee. In the No. 6 match, the Blazers' Mancarella defeated Samford's Weaver, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
Next week, the Blazers head to Norfolk, Va. to face Hampton, Old Dominion and East Tennessee State on March 26-28.
