UAB Men's Tennis Defeats Saint Louis, 6-1

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The UAB men's tennis team improved to 6-1 on the season and tallied its first conference win of the season as it defeated the Saint Louis Billikens, 6-1, here at one of the Conference USA Men's Tennis Shootouts. The other is currently being held at TCU.
UAB (6-1, 1-0), seeded fourth in the tournament, started the match by winning all three doubles matches. The Blazers' Tobi Klein and Andre Maier were victorious over SLU's Ikaika Jobe and Sanjeev Paramanathan, 8-6, in the No. 1 position. At the No. 2 spot, Anton Mavrin and Kristijan Mitrovski of UAB defeated the Billikens' Tom de Larzac and Thomas Kwong, 8-3. Finally, UAB's Dino Mancarella and Ruben Zrihen beat Saint Louis' Taylor Curran and Lance Vodicka, 8-3, in the No. 3 tilt.
The Blazers continued to dominate Saint Louis (3-8, 0-1), the fifth seed, in singles action. In the No. 2 slot, UAB's Mavrin was a 6-1, 7-6 winner over the Billikens' Kwong. At the No. 3 position, the Blazers' Maier defeated SLU's de Larzac, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. UAB's Mitrovski continued the winning, beating Saint Louis' Vodicka, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 4 spot. Sanzaruz Zaman recorded a win over SLU's Curran, after Curran retired with the match at 6-0, 1-0, in the No. 5 tilt. Finally, the Blazers' won the No. 6 match, as Ivan Andreev beat Paramanathan, 4-6, 6-2, 10-6.
UAB's only loss came at the No. 1 singles position, as the Blazers' Klein fell to Saint Louis' Jobe, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
UAB will battle 29th-ranked USF at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
