BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team worked out in helmets and shorts for nearly two hours here on Tuesday afternoon, as it continued to prepare for Saturday's road game with Army. The Blazers and Black Knights take the field at Michie Stadium in West Point, N.Y., on Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. (ET).
"Right now we're trying to get another win," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "We're worried about Army right now. The last two teams from the conference to go up there had a difficult time. TCU barely won, 21-17, and Cincinnati got beat, 48-29. We've got our hands full. We've got to get ready to play. They are a very tough team at home."
The Blazers are coming off a 20-7 victory against Houston on Nov. 13 at Legion Field. With the win, UAB became bowl-eligible for the third time in five seasons. The Blazers are now 6-3 overall and 4-2 in Conference USA action. UAB has won all four previous meetings with the Black Knights, including a 24-9 win in 2003.
Army was defeated by Tulane, 41-35, in New Orleans on Saturday. The Black Knights have a 2-7 record, including a 2-5 C-USA mark, under first-year head coach Bobby Ross. This is the last season that Army will be a member of Conference USA.
The game will be carried live on the Blazer Sports Network (101.1 FM in Birmingham).
