BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team continued Homecoming preparations for the Houston Cougars on Wednesday afternoon with a two hour practice in clear, but brisk conditions in Birmingham. The Blazers' home finale versus Houston is set for 3 p.m. CT Saturday at Legion Field.
"We've had great practices all week," UAB head coach Watson Brown said. "Let's hope it transfers to Saturday. The kids are really practicing well and with great enthusiasm, so we'll see what happens Saturday."
The Blazers last played on Wednesday, Nov. 3, in a television contest against USF. The layoff has given UAB a solid week of time to heal and get ready for Houston. By game time, the Blazers will have had 10 days without a game to play.
"We've had three weeks of off-and-on, off-and-on," Brown said. "I'm not real fond of these Wednesday, Thursday or Friday games. But, this is our first real taste of some extended time to prepare, so we'll see how it goes. It will be nice to get back to a normal week which we haven't had in three weeks."
UAB (5-3, 3-2 Conference USA) looks for bowl-eligibility with its sixth win versus the Cougars. While the Blazers have dropped two straight games after beginning the season 5-1, UAB is 3-1 at home this year. Houston (3-6, 3-3) beat East Carolina, 34-24, last week.
Saturday's game will be broadcast on the Blazer Sports Network. UAB will finish the regular season with road trips to Army and Southern Miss.
