BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mother nature had a hand in UAB's football practice Wednesday afternoon as showers moved the Blazers' practice indoors. UAB continues preparations for next Wednesday night's nationally televised clash with USF at 6:30 p.m. (CT) at Legion Field. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
"We lost the first hour of practice and didn't get quite as much done as we would have liked," said UAB head coach Watson Brown concerning the affect of the weather. "The good thing is that is was our put-in day, staring on South Florida. I think we'll be alright, but we need to get outside tomorrow. We just got started on the game plan, but we've got a few extra days and we don't want to throw too much at them at once, so I don't think this hurt us that bad today."
The Blazers (5-2, 3-1 C-USA) suffered their first conference loss of the season on Oct. 23, as they fell at Tulane, 59-55. UAB and the Green Wave combined for 1,174 yards of offense. Darrell Hackney finished 23-of-38 passing for 448 yards and two touchdowns for the Blazers, while Roddy White led all receivers with 253 yards on 10 receptions and had a 28-yard touchdown catch. White's yardage total was the second-highest recorded in Conference USA history.
USF (2-4, 1-3) is looking to snap a three-game losing streak when it comes to Birmingham. The Bulls fell at Louisville, 41-9, on Oct. 23. Quarterback Pat Julmiste has played in six games for USF, completing 55 passes for 687 yards and four touchdowns this season. Andre Hall leads USF, averaging 91.2 rushing yards per game.
The game will be carried live on the Blazer Sports Network (101.1 FM in Birmingham).
