BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team worked out in pads and shorts for just over two hours here on Wednesday afternoon. The Blazers will travel to New Orleans, La., for their game against Tulane on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 2:30 p.m. (CT). The game, which will be held at Tad Gormley Stadium, will be televised in Birmingham on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS).
The Blazers (5-1, 3-0 C-USA) are looking for their fifth-straight victory, something UAB has not done since the 1994 season as a I-AA member when they closed the season with six-straight victories. The Blazers currently rank No. 24 among the 118 NCAA Division I-A schools with an average of 32.7 points per game.
Tulane (1-4, 0-3) is looking to snap a three-game losing streak as it hosts UAB in its homecoming game. The Green Wave fell to Memphis on Oct. 16, 49-24. Tulane has won the last two meetings between the two schools, including a 38-24 victory in Birmingham during the 2003 season.
This game will be UAB's second Conference USA game away from Legion Field. The Blazers won at Cincinnati, 30-27, on Oct. 2. With conference standings being so close, UAB head coach Watson Brown knows that road wins may prove to be crucial in the end.
"It's hard to win in this league on the road," said Brown. "Every one you get, you get a leg up on everybody else. That's the big thing. We've got to go on the road, we've got to play well. They believe they can beat us because they have and we're going to have to play a good game."
The game will be carried live on the Blazer Sports Network (101.1 FM in Birmingham).
