BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- On Tuesday, the UAB football team began to prepare for its game against South Carolina under sunny skies, with a practice session lasting over two hours. The Blazers and Gamecocks take to the field on Saturday, September 20, in Columbia, S.C.
"Things went really good today," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "It was a much better practice than last Tuesday. I think the intensity was there. I'm starting see things come together a little better. I knew that at the start of the year, we need to keep getting better every week and I thought we did today."
The Blazers have had trouble hanging onto the ball in their last two games, as they have turned the ball over nine times. Brown knows this week's game against the Gamecocks is going to be a difficult task.
"The things we were doing wrong are very correctable," Brown said. "There's a short list of things we've got to correct and if we do that, we're okay. It's not like we're getting stuffed or run over the whole time. It's that we haven't managed a game well yet. I think this is a good team to play because they (South Carolina) make you do these things. We cannot beat South Carolina unless we do all the little things right. I think it's a great week to be playing them."
UAB will resume practice on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. as the Blazers continue preparation for Saturday's away game against SEC foe South Carolina at 6 p.m. (CT) in Columbia, S.C.
