BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team went through its final day of double sessions here Monday as head coach Watson Brown and the Blazers now look to Tuesday's afternoon scrimmage.
"I know the scrimmage (tomorrow) will be shorter," said Brown, whose team went through a 125-play scrimmage last Wednesday, "but it will be an important one. There will be a lot of decisions made from the scrimmage, not as far as starters but with our second and third teams and our special teams."
Brown said he doesn't expect running back Dan Burks (hamstring), offensive lineman Barker White (knee) or linebacker Kyle Bissinger (shoulder) to participate in Tuesday's scrimmage, but he does anticipate junior linebacker Gaylon Black to be on the field.
"We'll see how much Gaylon can do if he comes back tomorrow without a temperature," Brown said of Black who missed several days of practice due to high fever. "But Gaylon's played for us, he knows what to do, so we're not going to ask him to do too much in the scrimmage."
The Blazers will take Wednesday off before getting back on the field Thursday when they begin their specific preparations for the season opener at Baylor on Aug. 30 (6:00 p.m. CT).
