BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team went through a pair of light workouts here Thursday, a day after holding its first scrimmage of the preseason.
"The guys were sore today and you could see it, but still I thought it was a good practice," said head coach Watson Brown. "We went through about a 125-play scrimmage yesterday and everybody, down to the third-teamers, got in on a lot of plays."
Sophomore running back Dan Burks missed another day of work, still bothered by the pulled hamstring he suffered last Friday.
Brown also offered some more comments on Wednesday's scrimmage after having the opportunity to view the tape from the workout.
"I thought our three quarterbacks looked good," he said. "Darrell had a good scrimmage, but we have to run the ball better with our first unit. I think that will help Darrell out a great deal. I thought our other two (Curtis Falany and Chris Williams) both had good days."
UAB will be on the field Friday for a single practice in the afternoon.
The Blazers will open their 2003 season on Saturday, Aug. 30 (6:00 p.m. CT) when they travel to Waco, Texas to meet Big XII Conference foe Baylor.
