Blazer Kicker Nick Hayes Rated Among Nation's Best

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB placekicker Nick Hayes is rated among the nation's best at his position heading into the 2003 season, according to The Sporting News 2003 College Football Yearbook.
Hayes, a junior from Birmingham, is rated No. 16 among kickers in The Sporting News preseason edition.
Hayes, a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award last season, connected on his first 14 field goals of the 2002 campaign and finished 17-of-22 for the year. He had eight field goals of 40 yards or more and has hit 25-of-30 inside 50 yards during his career.
Hayes has connected on 27-of-37 field goals during his career for a UAB record 73.0 percent accuracy mark. He also has made all 46 of his extra points in his two-year Blazer career and was one of only 20 placekickers nationally last fall who was perfect when kicking 15 or more extra points.
The 6-1, 180-pound Hayes scored 80 points in 2002, third-most in UAB history for a single season.
