UAB Tennis Prepares For Important Weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's and women's tennis teams have crucial weekends as the 2003 season comes to an end. The women's team heads to New Orleans for the Conference USA Championships on Saturday through Tuesday, while the men's team hosts Middle Tennessee in its final regular season match.
UAB women's tennis team (10-6, 3-2) heads into the championships as the No. 8 seed and will play ninth-seeded East Carolina on Saturday at 9 am. The Lady Pirates compiled a 13-7 record this spring, their most since the 2000 squad won 15 matches. The winner will advance to play top seed and host Tulane on Sunday at 3 p.m., while the loser will play an elimination match on Monday at noon.
The UAB men's tennis team hosts Middle Tennessee after falling to No. 14 Alabama, 6-1, on Wednesday. The Blazers are now 9-12 overall and 2-1 in C-USA action. The Blue Raiders fell to eighth-ranked Vanderbilt on Wednesday afternoon. The Commodores won the doubles point and five of the six singles matches to defeat Middle Tennessee, 6-1. Middle Tennessee is now 5-15 overall in 2003.
