Men's Tennis Travels To South Alabama For Rematch

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's tennis team (9-10, 2-1) heads to Mobile to face 52nd-ranked South Alabama on Saturday, at 11 a.m. Earlier this season, the Blazers fell to the Jaguars, 4-0, on March 15 at the Blue/Gray Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala.
The Blazers have a 4-11 record against South Alabama during head coach Derek Tarr's reign. The Jaguars won their third match in-a-row with a 4-3 victory over Sun Belt rival Middle Tennessee on March 27. With South Alabama trailing 3-2, Heinrich Heyl and Jorgen Vestli posted victories in the last two matches to lift the Jaguars to the win. USA moved to 11-6 with the win.
On March 14, UAB snapped a four-match losing streak as it took the doubles point and won five of six singles matches to defeat Marquette, 6-1, on March 21. In doubles, UAB won at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Ivan Andreev and Kristijan Mitrovski picked up the only doubles loss for the Blazers in the No. 3 spot, as they were defeated, 8-4, by Creighton Macey and Eigintas Vendrickas of Marquette. UAB dominated singles play against the Golden Eagles, as it won five of six matches, taking the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 matches. UAB's only loss came at the No. 1 singles spot as Bastian Gruendler fell to Marquette's Gil, 6-3, 6-1.
