UAB Men's Tennis Defeats Marquette 6-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.---The UAB men's tennis team (9-10, 2-1 C-USA) took the doubles point and won five of six singles matches to defeat Marquette (2-9), 6-1, at Brook Highland Racquet Club, here Friday.
In the No. 1 doubles position, UAB's Andre Maier and Patrick Suhrbier defeated Marquette's Raj Gill and Justin Holsen, 9-7. Bastian Gruendler and Sanzaruz Zaman picked up the second doubles victory of the day for UAB in the No. 2 doubles tilt, as they defeated Marquette's Ian Kawas and Troy Delmege, 8-5. In the No. 3 doubles spot, Ivan Andreev and Kristijan Mitrovski pick up the only loss for the Blazers in doubles action in the No. 3 spot, as they were defeated, 8-4, by Creighton Macey and Eigintas Vendrickas of Marquette.
UAB dominated singles play against the Golden Eagles, as they won five of six matches. In the No. 2 tilt, Maier defeated Eigintas Vendrickas, 6-2, 6-0. Blazer Andreev picked up a win over Marquette's Troy Delmege, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 3 position.
In the No. 4 singles match, Mitrovski beat Golden Eagle Justin Holsen, 6-0, 6-0, for the third Blazers singles victory of the day. UAB's Zaman was victorious over Macey of Marquette, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 5 spot and Blazer Suhrbier defeated Marquette's Ian Kawas, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 6 tilt.
UAB's only loss came at the No. 1 singles spot as Gruendler fell to Marquette's Gil, 6-3, 6-1.
The Blazers will be back in action Saturday, March 29 at South Alabama starting at 11 a.m.
