UAB DE Jermaine McElveen Named To Conference USA All-Freshman Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB defensive end Jermaine McElveen, who was one of the top young defensive players in Conference USA this season, has been tabbed to the league's 2003 All-Freshman Team, announced Wednesday.
McElveen, a 6-5, 245-pound product of Lakeside High School in Atlanta, started all 12 games during the season for the Blazers on the defensive line.
He ranked among the Conference USA leaders in sacks with six during the 2003 campaign and was listed No. 6 overall for UAB in total tackles with 63, including 35 solo stops. McElveen also had registered 6.5 tackles for loss and led the team in quarterback hurries with 21. He has also recovered one fumble.
Houston produced a conference-high six selections on the team, while TCU and Tulane had the second-most selections with four each.
McElveen was named last week to the Rivals.com Freshman All-America Team.
