BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- On Wednesday, the UAB football team continued to get ready for its game against Cincinnati with a practice session lasting over two hours. The Blazers and Bearcats take to the field on Saturday, October 11, at Legion Field beginning at 3 p.m.
"We've had good practices," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "The kids are working hard and they've got a good attitude about it. Everything leading up to it looks good. We'll see what happens on Saturday."
The Blazers had been missing several key players, but time is beginning to heal some wounds and players are returning to the practice field. Running backs Dan Burks and Bo Moncur, both out with shoulder injuries, returned to the gridiron for Tuesday's practice and were back again on Wednesday. Additionally, defensive lineman David Miller and defensive end Anthony Garrett saw their first action of the week, after sitting out due to injury.
"We're pretty healthy. David Miller came back out today. Bo Moncur looked pretty good, but Dan Burks is still sore and will probably wait another week before returning. Anthony Garrett was back for his first practice and got a little bit of work today. We've got to start getting him back into the mix, he's very important to us. I don't know if he'll play much this week because he hasn't practiced, but we're glad to get him back on the field."
UAB is trying to win its second-straight game this week. The Blazers defeated Memphis, 24-10, on Oct. 4, in Memphis, Tenn. Cincinnati has won three-straight games against UAB, including a 31-23 victory in the last meeting on Nov. 30, 2002, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
UAB will resume practice on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
