Men's Tennis Enjoys Success At Regionals

MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- The UAB men's tennis enjoyed early success in the first day at the Region III ITA Division I Regional Championships here on Friday. The Blazers tallied two singles win and two doubles victories.
UAB's Andre Maier won in the round of 128, defeating Greg Sossaman, 6-3, 6-2. In the round of 64, Maier beat Tim Krebs, 6-3, 6-4. He will face Dmitriy Koch in the round of 32 on Saturday.
In doubles action, Blazers Maier and Kristijan Mitrovski teamed up to defeat Robert Van Swelm and Charles Van Swelm, 8-3. UAB's Sanzaruz Zaman and Ruben Zrihen beat Trey Brower and Alex Jago, 9-7. Both teams advanced to the round of 32.
In the round of 128, Blazer Zaman lost to John Hoyes, 6-4, 6-4, as UAB's Zrihen beat James Spence, 6-0, 6-1.
Blazer Mitrovski was defeated by Frederik Aarum, 6-3, 6-2, in the round of 64.
The Blazers continue play on Saturday, Oct. 18.
