BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- The UAB football team practiced for a little over two hours here Wednesday in pads and shorts, making some final preparations for its game with Conference USA rival TCU, which is ranked 13th in the nation. The Blazers concentrated on game scenarios and worked out some game situations.
"I thought we had a real good practice (Wednesday)," said head coach Watson Brown. "Practice was a little better than yesterday and it's another day to get ready for TCU. It is a little different operation this week and we have to make sure we can get all the mental pieces together. We're looking forward to playing a top-ranked team and we will see what we can do."
UAB practiced in sunny and mild conditions on the afternoon. It was the second consecutive day this week the Blazers practiced in the Fall-like conditions, which is a welcome change for Brown.
"We have had some beautiful weather," said Brown. "It's turning into the fall and we are able to get a little more done in this type of weather. We have had good practices for three straight weeks and hopefully it will keep going."
UAB (3-3, 2-1 C-USA) picked up its second straight conference victory on Saturday as the Blazers knocked off Cincinnati, 31-14, at Legion Field. The win snapped the Blazers' three-game losing streak against Cincinnati and resulted in UAB's first victory in the series since 1999.
TCU (6-0, 3-0 C-USA) heads into Saturday's contest as one of only five undefeated teams in the country. The Horned Frogs were the second-fastest team to become bowl eligible this season on Friday as they held off South Florida, 13-10.
UAB and TCU will meet on Oct. 18, at 6:05 p.m. in Fort Worth, Texas. The matchup will be televised regionally on Charter/Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS). Matt Coulter and Kevin Drake will call the action for television. The game can also be heard locally on WYDE 101.1 FM with Gary Sanders doing the play-by-play.
