BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- With only two days before the University of Alabama at Birmingham opens its 2002 home schedule against Troy State, the Blazers made some final preparations in Thursday afternoon's practice.
UAB head coach Watson Brown admitted there were still mistakes being made, however, he was generally pleased with the way practice went on Thursday.
"I think we're getting better," Brown said. "We are still making some mistakes out there, but I know we'll have less mistakes in game two than what we had in our first game last week. We need to have some patience with this team because we are such a young football team, but I have seen some improvement. We'll be better this weekend."
UAB practiced through a variety of weather conditions on the afternoon, experiencing sun, heat and a rainstorm during the two-hour and 10 minute practice.
"The rain didn't bother us too bad," said head coach Watson Brown. "It made it tough to throw and catch the ball, but if it were to rain this Saturday night, it will be a condition we are prepared for now after today."
Brown also stated that he felt the injury situation was getting better and remained optimistic about getting preseason All-Conference USA selection Andy Galloway back in the trenches.
"I expect Andy to return to the starting lineup. He should be nearly 100-percent," Brown said.
The team will hold one last practice on Friday afternoon at 2:45 p.m. before Saturday's game.
The UAB-Troy State game will kick off at 6 p.m. CT. The contest will be televised on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast.
