BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-----After a day off Monday, the UAB football team got back to work Tuesday as it prepares for Saturday's home opener against Troy State. The Blazers had a full pad workout this afternoon for just over two hours.
"I thought practice was very good today, very intense," said head coach Watson Brown. "We came back very well after a tough loss. We got back on the field and worked very hard. It is hot out here."
"We have to be sharper at everything we do," said Brown, whose team lost its season opener, 51-3, at sixth-ranked Florida Saturday. "We took half the practice and worked on fundamental work. We spent our team time working on Troy."
UAB's offensive line will be without the services of tackle Barker White and guard Anthony Larry when it meets Troy. White is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in the Florida game. Larry will miss the next two to four weeks with a knee injury.
There was some good news for the offensive line when preseason All-Conference USA selection Andy Galloway returned to practice healthy today after sitting out the opener with an ankle injury.
The UAB-Troy State game will kick off at 6 p.m. CT. The contest will be televised on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast.
