BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- UAB practiced for more than two hours in helmets and shorts, in preparation for Saturday's road contest (6:00 p.m.) at Louisiana-Lafayette. The Blazers have played three difficult games in a row and head coach Watson Brown is expecting the same in Lafayette.
"I know they are going to play hard. It's a big game for them," said Brown. "I know we'll get them at their best. I just want us to play better. We've been getting better every game and I want to see if we can continue that. We need to do that this week. It is a big game for us."
The Blazers have felt the effects of injuries in recent weeks, however a few key players have been able to bounce back and are ready to play this weekend.
"The ones that are capable of playing are healthy and ready to go, I think," said Brown. "We've lost some, but all the bumps and bruises of the ones that are capable are going to be okay."
Coach Brown is hoping to give Darrell Hackney, who injured his knee against Troy State, another week of rest.
"Hopefully, we don't have to play him. If we have to use him, I think he's capable of going out there, but he's about 80 percent. We'd love to give him one more week."
The contest will be televised as part of the ESPN Plus Package.
