BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- The UAB football team worked out for more than two hours here Tuesday, preparing for Saturday's road contest (6:00 p.m.) at Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Blazers enter the game at Cajun Field coming off a 26-20 loss at home to Big EAST Conference foe Pittsburgh last Saturday.
While the Ragin' Cajuns come into Saturday's game in search of their first win of the season, UAB head coach Watson Brown said he has been impressed with UL Lafayette in the early season.
"Coach (Rickey) Bustle has them playing hard," said Brown. "What I have seen is effort, desire and toughness. I see that same go-get 'em approach coach Bustle was a part of at Virginia Tech for so many years."
Bustle served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with the Hokies for eight of the past nine years.
Brown said that Blazer sophomore linebacker Zac Woodfin will move from his starting middle position to the outside spot previously held by sophomore Gaylon Black.
Black, the team's leading tackler (32 stops) through the first three games, will miss the remainder of the 2002 season after suffering a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in last Saturday's game against Pittsburgh. Another sophomore, Nigel Eldridge, will move into the starting middle linebacker position.
The Blazers will be back at practice Wednesday afternoon as they continue preparations for Saturday's game in Lafayette. The contest will be televised as part of the ESPN Plus Package.
