BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team worked out for just over two hours in full pads Tuesday, as preparations continued for the Blazers' season opener Saturday against the sixth-ranked (by the Associated Press) Florida Gators in Gainesville, Fla. Tuesday's practice was spirited, as the team drew closer to Saturday's 6 p.m. (ET) kickoff.
"It was a very good practice," said head coach Watson Brown. "We are getting closer, legs look like they are getting some spring back, spirits are up, injured players are slowly getting healthy, so it was a good day. It's game time, season time, and the team's spirits are up and I think they are going to be ready to play."
Tuesday marked the final physical practice of the week, as the rest of the workouts will be geared towards the timing and mental aspects of the game plan.
"Today was the last day in pads," said Brown. "That's the last physical work we will do and now we'll get mental work and time things up, and then go play football."
Wednesday's practice is scheduled for a 2:45 p.m. start.
UAB opens the season Saturday against No. 6 Florida in Gainesville. The game will air live as a part of the ESPN GamePlan Package.
