BIRMINGHAM - After two two-hour and 10-minute sessions, the UAB football team wrapped up its second day of full-squad two-a-day practices. The team worked out in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts for the second consecutive day. Temperatures remained mild for August in Alabama (around 85 degrees).
Head coach Watson Brown was once again pleased with the effort and was also pleased with the improvement over the first day.
"It was a good practice, much better than yesterday," said Brown. "There was a little more rhythm to things on both sides. I thought we improved from day one to day two.
"The weather is cooperating a little too much. When you are going to Gainesville to play at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, you would rather it get a little hotter. Overall, the weather has been good, but we are still having some cramps and things."
Sophomore tight end Sam Dudley missed practice today due to a sprained ankle. He is expected to be out around 10 days. He joins redshirt freshman right tackle Paul Linsky, who is suffering from a thigh injury. Linsky is expected back in about three weeks.
The Blazers continue practice tomorrow with one session, beginning at 4:15 p.m.
UAB opens the season Aug. 31 against the Florida Gators in Gainesville, Fla. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. (ET) kickoff and will air live on a pay per view basis and will also air on a taped delay basis through the Sunshine Network.
