Ross Robinson has been promoted from graduate assistant to running backs coach for the UAB football team, head coach Watson Brown announced.
Robinson replaces Toby Neinas, who left prior to spring practice to take a position with Temple University.
Robinson spent this spring working with the running backs. He has served the past two seasons as a graduate assistant with the Blazers. He worked with the defense during the 2000 season and assisted with the wide receivers this past season.
"He is the first graduate assistant that I have promoted," Brown said. "He worked with our running backs this spring and has done an outstanding job the two years he has been here. In addition he has excellent recruiting abilities that will be a huge asset to our program."
Prior to coming to UAB, Robinson spent one season as wide receivers coach at the University of West Alabama.
A graduate of Auburn University, Robinson worded as a student assistant with the Tigers for three years under head coaches Terry Bowden and Bill Oliver. He worked under then offensive coordinator and current Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden and with Oliver as a defensive assistant. He worked with Auburn's 1997 team that won the Southeastern Conference West Division and defeated Clemson in the Peach Bowl. He was also part of the program in 1996 when Auburn defeated Army in the Independence Bowl.
UAB has gone 7-4 and 6-5 in the two seasons Robinson has been with the Blazers.
