DAVIDSON, N.C. - The 53rd-ranked UAB men's tennis team swept all nine matches en route to a 7-0 win over Davidson College Saturday at the Knobloch Tennis Center.
With the win, UAB improves to 13-5 on the season and 4-0 in Conference USA play.
The Blazers got the momentum up early sweeping the doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. UAB's 35th-ranked tandem of Alex Jung and Tobi Klein tallied an 8-6 victory over Davidson's Rob Haywood and Donald Miles. The win was the ninth of the season for the Blazer pair.
In singles, the Blazers continued the momentum, sweeping Davidson with straight sets in all six positions.
Freshman Klein tallied his ninth win of the season easily defeating Haywood, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. Senior Andre van der Merwe knocked off Wildcat Chad Winebarger, 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, while at the No. 2 spot, Jung cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over David Webb.
The Blazers will take on their seventh ranked opponent this week when they travel to Auburn, Ala. to take on the Tigers April 3 in a 5 p.m. match-up.
