UAB head football coach Watson Brown says his that Monday's practice was ?alright,? but the team has been inconsistent overall.
?We'll have one good play and then a bad play,? Brown said. ?We're just very inconsistent.?
Brown did day there was good news and bad news. ?The good news is the effort and attitude is, I think, the best I have seen. The bad news is because we're hurting too many people. We played today without four offensive linemen from the top two teams to injuries. They are not serious, but they are too me because we don't have enough days in the spring to play without guys.?
The struggles of inconsistency and the good attitude and effort are both signs of youth according to Brown. ?It's a young team and is shows. We're not polished on defense, which I knew we were not going to be. The offense has its ups and down. However, I do think it is better than last year.?
***One spring change that Brown says seems to be paying off is the move of Mario Stanley from defensive back to running back. ?Mario's made it a good move. He seems to make at least one big play each practice. His speed really helps us at running back and gives us a good balance with Theron Dudley and Kendall Gibson.?
***Jason Southall, who has been moved from wide receiver to cornerback, returned to practice after the death of his mother last week.
?It was good to have Jason out there again after missing last week,? Brown said. ?He's had a tough week but he did a good job today at a new position. It was his first day to play corner and he did fine out there. I think he can help us at that spot.?
The Blazers practice Tuesday and scrimmage Thursday before taking off for spring break.
