MURRAY, Ky. - UAB sophomore Carrie Underwood (Alabaster, Ala.) shot a 341 out of a possible 400 to lead the Blazers in the NCAA Sectionals Sunday at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range at Murray State's Roy Stewart Stadium.
The Blazers finished the event in 15th place with an aggregate score of 1227. Tennessee Tech finsihed first with an aggregate score of 6175 (4637 - small bore, 1538 - air rifle). The Blazers have a lower aggregate score compared to the rest of the field due to fact that they shoot only air rifle and no small bore.
In other Blazer action, senior Mandy Leach (Morris, Ala.) shot 312, Sarah Labriola (Hoover, Ala.) shot 309 and Stacey Fox (Birmingham, Ala.) shot 265.
The NCAA Sectionals offers teams a chance to shoot a qualifying score for the NCAA Championships, to be held at Murray State on March 14-16. Several sectionals are being held nationwide over the next few weeks.
Only the top eight teams in all the sectionals accross the U.S. will qualify for the NCAA Championships in air rifle. The Blazer will not attend the Championships, which makes this their last event of the season.
