BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team (5-5, 4-2 C-USA) practiced for two hours in shorts and helmets in anticipation of its C-USA game with Louisville (6-4, 4-2 C-USA) this Saturday in Louisville, Ky. The Blazers, coming off a record-setting performance in a 36-29 victory over East Carolina on Saturday, now turn their focus to the Cardinals.
UAB head coach Watson Brown commented at Thursday's practice on his team's injury situation. He feels his team is healthier than they have been in a long time.
"The injury situation is better right now," Brown said. "At this point in the season, we're not going to get anyone back. Darrell (Hackney) is getting better which is a good thing for us, but overall we are not in that bad of shape."
Louisville enters the contest as one of the top teams in Conference USA. The Cardinals are currently tied with the Blazers for second place in the conference standings and are fighting for a bowl bid. The Cardinals became bowl eligible when they got win number six, defeating Southern Miss, 20-17, on November 14. Brown knows the Blazers will have a tough task ahead of them.
"They have good special teams, a very good defense and probably the conference player of the year at quarterback to lead the offense, so it's going to be a tough game for us," Brown said. "Our guys understand they will have to be at the top of their games to pull this one out. When you have a game this late in the season with both teams playing for something, you're going to have a good game. Our guys are excited and ready to go."
The Blazers and Cardinals will kickoff on Saturday, November 23, at Noon CT at Louisville's Papa John's Stadium.
