BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- With only two days before the University of Alabama at Birmingham takes on Conference USA rival Houston, the Blazers practiced without pads for a little over two hours here Wednesday, after going in full pads on Tuesday. UAB football coaches decided to move the practice time up two hours from the normal starting time in order to beat the rain which was forecasted for the late afternoon.
Head coach Watson Brown had the team practice at 1:30 p.m., followed by team meetings at 3:30 p.m. Overall, Brown was pleased with the practice session.
"I thought practice went well today," head coach Watson Brown said. "Today we had practice before meetings. We moved everything around because we wanted to be sure to get a full practice in today and, with the threat of rain, we weren't sure if we could get a full practice in if we stuck with the same format."
UAB's practice session concentrated on getting the gameplan in order for the Cougars. Brown stated Houston is a tough team to prepare for. With the rash of injuries the Cougars have experienced at some of the key positions, the Blazers were unsure what exactly to prepare for come Saturday.
"We are trying to get the gameplan in order," Brown said. "It makes it tough to prepare and install a gameplan when a team has lost some of its starters. I think we'll be just fine though."
Saturday's game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. kick off at Legion Field.
