BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- The UAB football team (3-4, 2-1) practiced under cloudy skies for two hours in shorts and pads on Wednesday in preparation for its showdown with Army (0-7, 0-5) this Saturday in West Point, N.Y. The Blazers are still banged up from last Saturday's loss to Tulane.
"We have a lot of people who can't go live, but we're getting them the reps they need," said head coach Watson Brown. "I hope that a lot of these kids that are banged around can get through the game. Everybody is out here and they're all getting assignment work. In many ways, what we did today was good, but missing the physical work bothers me."
Army has a well-balanced attack, utilizing 244 rushing plays for 873 yards and 241 passing plays for 1,441 yards. The Black Knights are also known for showing many different sets on both sides of the ball.
"They do a lot, so it's a mental week," said Brown. "They give you a lot of looks and jump around on both sides of the ball. There's a lot involved in the kicking game. Army is one of those teams that is difficult to prepare for, so we're doing a lot of mental work."
UAB is looking for its first road victory of the season against the Black Knights. Saturday's game will kick off at 12:00 p.m. CT in Michie Stadium.
