BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- The UAB football team practiced for two hours in shorts and helmets despite cloudy skies and a light rain. UAB (2-3, 1-0) hosts Conference USA opponent Houston (2-3, 0-2) this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Legion Field. After having an open date last weekend, head coach Watson Brown thinks his team is ready to go.
"I think we've got more confidence," said Brown. "This team has learned that if we play hard, we have a chance to beat anyone on our schedule. If we don't, we won't win another game. We've got to be into what we're doing and play well. I just don't think, from this point on, it will be any easier from week to week."
The Cougars are coming off of a 34-17 loss to TCU. Junior quarterback Nick Eddy will be making his second start of the season. Last week against TCU, Eddy threw for 217 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Senior running back Joffrey Reynolds leads the team with 494 yards for the season, an average of 98.8 per game and 4.8 yards per carry. Brown thinks the Blazers are facing a challenge.
"Houston is much improved from last season when they almost beat us." said Brown. "They match up with us very well. I think it's going to be a really close game. Whoever takes care of the ball will probably win this game."
