"DOG DAYS"
BEGIN:? A day into two-a-day workouts, with the excitement and
adrenaline of the beginning of practice beginning to wane, the UAB Blazers
battled through a pair of two-plus hour practices, again working in shorts,
helmets and shoulder pads.?
"The dog days are
beginning,, and we really haven't had any hot weather yet," said
UAB Head Coach Watson Brown following the afternoon practice.
"This is where we make
this a really good football team.?
We have to find ways to fight through the fatigue the soreness, and the
temptation to play as individuals and not as a team."
HEAT IS DECEPTIVE: Although rain and cloud cover have kept temperatures
relatively cool, that does not mean that the players, coaches and medical staff
do not have to be extremely vigilant about taking precautions to prevent
dehyradtion and other serious heat-related problems.?? After Thursday's two practices, four UAB players
were treated with IV fluids for symptoms of? dehydration, and senior linebackers John Humphries and Rod Taylor both missed practice time Friday in order to undergo treatment.
SATURDAY'S
SCHEDULE: The Blazers will hold an
abbreviated workout that will concentrate on the kicking game Saturday morning
(beginning at approximately 8:45 am), and will work in shorts, helmets and
shoulder pads in the afternoon session (4:45 pm).
FIRST DAY IN FULL PADS: A single practice, still set for Sunday afternoon,
beginning at approximately 4:45 pm.
