Lourie Leads UAB At C-USA Women's Golf Tournament

BIRMINGHAM - UAB junior Heather Lourie ranks tied for 13th and the UAB women's golf teamfinds itself tied for sixth in the team standings after the first day of the Conference USA Tournament here Friday at the Inverness Country Club.
South Florida leads the three round event at the par 72, 5979 yard Inverness course with a total score of 299. The Bulls are paced by overall co-leader Jessica Hayes who finished the day with a one-over par 73. Hayes is joined by Katherine Mowat of Louisville atop the leaderboard.
Kelly Martin of South Florida and Ofelia Lopez of Southern Miss are tied at third with 74 a piece. Louisville finished the day in second, six strokes off the lead shooting 305. Eleven strokes back of first with a 310, sitting in third place is Southern Mississippi.
Lourie fired a six-over par 78 in the first round and begins play on Saturday only five strokes off the pace set by Hayes and Mowat.
The Blazers finished the first round at 320, alone in sixth place. Following Lourie for the Blazers in the individual scoring was freshman Emily Hendricks who is tied for 18th, with a 79. Next, with a first-round 81 and sitting in a tie for 22nd place, was sophomore Jenni Elmore while teammate Christina Gushanas shot a first-round 82 and is tied for 27th. Freshman Katie Kane shot an 87 and is tied for 33rd.
Second round play begins at 12 noon. Admission is free and spectators are welcome.
