UAB Women Fall to League Leader Louisville 72-63

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - Marju Sober scored 27 points and Sara Nord added 18 to lead Conference USA leader Louisville (15-7, 10-1) to a 72-63 win over UAB (13-8, 5-5) in C-USA action Sunday afternoon.
UAB's Deanna Jackson recorded her 14th double-double of the year and the 45th of her career with 28 points and 15 rebounds. She pulled down 10 of her rebounds in the first half and 20 of her points in the second half.
Natasha Thomas also recorded a double-double for UAB with 17 points and 12 rebounds. UAB did outrebound Louisville 44-36.
Sober hit 7-of-9 three-point shots. Nord dished out eight assists in addition to her points.
The Lady Blazers trailed at the half for the third straight game, 32-23. UAB shot just 26.5 percent in the period. However unlike the last two games, UAB did not go on a run to start the second half.
UAB scored the first basket of the second half, a trey by Mia Thrash, to cut the lead to six. Louisville answered by outscoring the Lady Blazers 10-0 over the next two minute to push the lead to 16, 42-26.
The Lady Blazers then went on a 9-0 run to cut the score to 42-35 with 15 minutes left in the game. Sober answered with a jumper after a Shanta Bowens free throw to put Louisville up by 10 again.
UAB did cut the lead to four at 52-48 with 7:27 remaining, but Louisville answered again with nine straight points to push the lead back to nine.
Thrash finished the game with 12 points for the Lady Blazers, making four three-pointers.
Kara Kessans added 11 points and Tiana Ford scored 10 for Louisville. Shamika Ingram had 10 rebounds.
Louisville shot 54 percent from the field in the second half to finish the game hitting 45.5 percent. UAB finished the game shooting just 32 percent.
